Maroon & White Draft Held

COLLEGE STATION -- Wednesday marked Maroon & White draft day and Commissioner Dennis Franchione was pleased with the process.

“It looks pretty even to me, but there is still a 24-hour trade period,” Coach Fran said. “I thought both sides were well prepared, but as always there were a few surprises.”

A little different wrinkle in this year’s game will be junior quarterback Stephen McGee playing one quarter for one side, and playing another quarter for the other squad.

“My teammates know I will give my very best no matter if I am maroon or white,” McGee said. “I know both sides will compete.”

The Maroon squad captains are defensive lineman Red Bryant, offensive lineman Kirk Elder, wide receiver Earvin Taylor and linebacker Misi Tupe.

The White team captains are linebacker Mark Dodge, wide receiver Kerry Franks, defensive lineman Chris Harrington and offensive lineman Cody Wallace.

Maroon won the toss and selected offensive lineman Corey Clark with the first overall pick. The White team followed by drafting offensive lineman Chris Yoder.

The second pick for Maroon was defensive lineman Michael Bennett and the second pick for White was offensive lineman Michael Shumard.

The complete squads will be posted after the trade deadline.

The Maroon & White football game is set for this Saturday, Apr. 14 at Kyle Field with kick scheduled for 2 p.m.
