HUNTSVILLE -- Ryan Baker went 4-for-9 at the plate with 5 RBIs and Tim Erickson came on in relief to pick up saves in both games as Lamar swept a Southland Conference doubleheader from Sam Houston State Saturday by scores of 9-6 and 8-7.

In the first game, Michael Ambort hit a three-run home run in the top of the first inning as the Lamar Cardinals scored nine runs of 13 hits and three Bearkat errors.

Allen Harrington (5-3) allowed just six hits in seven innings for the
victory. Jesse Marshall (6-3) was the loser.

In the nightcap, the Cardinals scored eight runs on 14 hits and four Bearkat errors. Brian Needham (5-2) was the game winner

Lamar (24-15, SLC 11-3) leads the East Division of the Southland Conference. Sam Houston State (23-14, SLC 8-6) stands third in the SLC West.

The two teams meet in the third and final game of the series Sunday at 1 p.m. at Don Sanders Stadium
