OKLAHOMA CITY -- University of Oklahoma President David Boren says he believes O-U received a "totally fair" hearing today from an N-C-A-A Committee on Infractions.
Boren and O-U officials met with the committee today in
Indianapolis to defend itself against allegations in failed to
properly monitor athletes who worked at a Norman car dealership.
The Sooners dismissed three players - including starting
quarterback Rhett Bomar - for taking pay for hours they didn't work
at the dealership.
Boren told The Associated Press after the meeting that O-U was
given every opportunity to defend itself on the "failure to
monitor" charge.
In a written response to the N-C-A-A O-U strongly disagreed with
the failure to monitor charge. The school said the violations
wouldn't have been found if not for an "aggressive
investigation."
Boren says the N-C-A-A is restricting what he is allowed to say
about the meeting.
Boren says he expects a decision in six to eight weeks on
whether the committee will accept O-U's self-imposed sanctions or
add additional penalties.
