COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Oklahoma State’s 67th-ranked women’s tennis team was defeated by No. 20 Texas A&M, 5-2, at the George P. Mitchell Tennis Center Sunday in College Station, Texas.

The match was the regular season finale for the Cowgirls and the squad finishes the season 15-7 overall and 7-4 in Big 12 play. The 15 wins are the most regular season victories by a Cowgirl squad since the 2000-01 Big 12 Championship team.

The Aggies took an early lead after sweeping the doubles point. Although OSU lost the dual, there were a couple of positives in singles play.

Lauren Simmons, playing in her final regular season match, came up with one of the biggest wins of her career Sunday. The senior defeated No. 87 Elze Potgieter in straight sets, 6-2, 7-5, at No. 4 singles. She has now won eight of her last nine matches and will end her Cowgirl career in the top 20 in all-time wins.

Freshman Nataliya Shatkovskaya continued her solid play as she defeated Anna Blagodarova, 7-6 (6), 1-6, 1-0 (3), at No. 3 singles. Shatkovskaya will close out her first season at OSU a winner of six of her last seven.

The Cowgirls will next be in action when they travel to Kansas City April 26-29 to compete at the 2007 Big 12 Championships.
