COLLEGE STATION -- The No. 33-ranked Texas A&M men’s tennis team had four of its own ranked among the nation’s best in the latest ITA/FILA Collegiate Tennis Rankings released Tuesday.
Junior All-American Jerry Makowski (Bradenton, Fla.) and sophomore Conor Pollock (San Antonio, Texas) climbed to No. 58 and No. 82 respectively in singles. Makowski was previously ranked No. 67 on April 3 and Pollock ranked No. 104 on March 20. Both hold down the top two positions in the lineup for the Aggies. Pollock boasts a team-leading 15-6 record in dual match play, while Makowski has won eight matches at No. 1 including five against ranked opponents.
On the doubles end, senior Bryan Wooten (Houston, Texas) and junior Mike Beatty (Cincinnati, Ohio) are ranked No. 54 nationally with an 8-3 record in dual match play. Wooten holds a team-best 24-9 overall doubles record followed by junior Matt Bain (21-12), Pollock (20-10), senior John Nallon (19-13) and Beatty (17-6).
The Aggies play host to No. 67-ranked Nebraska in their final home match of the season on Friday, April 20 at the George P. Mitchell Tennis Center. Fans are encouraged to join the Texas A&M coaching staff and athletics department to honor seniors Brett Joelson (Beaverton, Ore.), John Nallon (Garland, Texas) and Bryan Wooten as they take the court for the final time in front of the 12th Man. For fans who have been registering throughout the season with a guess for the tennis ball can – the wait is over - as the winner of the free television giveaway will be announced during the break between doubles and singles action at Friday’s match. First serve between the Aggies and Cornhuskers is set for 6 p.m.
