Three Aggies Make Academic All Big 12 Golf Team

IRVING -- Three Texas A&M golfers are among the 34 student-athletes named to the 2007 Academic All-Big 12 Men¹s Golf Team, the league office announced on Tuesday.

Aggies making the first team are junior Trey Todd, an accounting major from Abilene, and sophomore Matt Van Zandt, a business major from Missouri City.

Senior Dillon Gooch, an agriculture & Life Sciences major from Salado, was tabbed for the second team.

Nominated by each institution¹s director of student-athlete support services and the media relations offices, the academic all-league men¹s golf squad consisted of 30 first team members combined with four on the second team.

First team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA, and the second team are those who have a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.

To qualify student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either
cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 60 percent of his team¹s scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.

The Big 12 Men¹s Golf Championship will be contested on April 23-24 at
Prairie Dunes Country Club in Hutchinson, Kan., for the eighth time in
conference history (1997-2002, 2004, 2007). Oklahoma State leads the league with four crowns while Texas has captured three league championships, followed by Baylor, Kansas and Oklahoma with one title each.
