WACO -- The Texas A&M women's golf team successfully defended its Big 12 women's golf championship after firing a final round 299 and beating second round leader Oklahoma State by 3 strokes at the Ridgewood Country Club.
Lauren Johnson lead the Aggie charge with a 1 over par 73. Ashley Knoll shot a 2 over par 74 and finished tied for 3rd, 5 strokes behind Amanda Costner of Kansas who won the Big 12 medalist crown with a 3 round total of 221, 5 over par. Danielle McVeigh was also 2 over on the day while Ashley Freeman was 6 over par.
The championship marks the 5th Big 12 championship won by a woman's athletic team at Texas A&M. The Aggies have already won conference team championships in soccer, basketball, swimming, & indoor track.
Also with Texas' 10th place finish, A&M picks up a point in the State Farm Lone Star Showdown competition.
