CHICAGO -- Mark Buehrle has tossed the first no-hitter of the major league season.
Buehrle allowed just one baserunner in leading the Chicago White
Sox to a 6-to-0 win over the Texas Rangers. The lone Ranger to
reach base was Sammy Sosa, who walked before he was picked off by Buehrle.
The White Sox lefty retired 20 of the final 22 batters he faced
in his previous start against Oakland. Buehrle is the first White
Sox hurler to throw a no-hitter since Wilson Alvarez in 1991
against Baltimore.
Buehrle also struck out eight and improved to 1-and-0.
All six runs came on homers. Jim Thome sandwiched a pair of solo shots around Jermaine Dye's grand slam.
Two of the homers were surrendered by Kevin Millwood, who is
2-and-2 after giving up five runs and five hits in five innings.
