PRAIRIE VIEW - Brandi Crnkovic struck out 13 of the 23 batters she faced as the sophomore right hander tossed the 14th no-hitter in Sam Houston State softball history Wednesday night as the Bearkats swept a non-conference doubleheader with Prairie View.
Sam Houston won the first game 9-1 behind Crnkovic's pitching and the
nightcap 11-1 as freshman Morgan Mikulin allowed the Panthers four hits.
The victories upped Sam Houston's season mark to 25-19 for the year.
Casie Everitt led Sam Houston at the plate, going 3-for-6 with four RBIs.
All three of her hits were doubles.
The Bearkats scored their nine runs in the first game on 11 hits and six
Prairie View errors. Stephanie Mosley and Kendra Spivey each had a pair of hits in the first contest.
Sam Houston State scored 11 runs in the second game on nine hits and four Panther errors. Megan Beard and Tiffani Woodrum each had two hits in the second game.
Beard and Amanda Lindsey also had doubles. Crnkovic upped her season record on the mound to 11-8. Her no-hitter was the first in two years for Sam Houston. Shalayne Blythe tossed a perfect five-inning game against Southeastern Louisiana and Melissa Collins no-hit McNeese State in 2005.
Mikulin struck out four while walking one as she upped her 2007 pitching mark to 13-10.
Sam Houston State will play host to Texas State-San Marcos in a three game series this weekend. The series begins Saturday with a 2 p.m. doubleheader at the Bearkat Softball Complex. The Bearkats and the Bobcats will conclude the series with a 1 p.m. single game Sunday.
