Bearkats Get Big Inning To Beat McNeese State

LAKE CHARLES - Bobby Verbick and Karl Krailo blasted home runs as Sam Houston State beat McNeese State 10-1 in Southland Conference baseball action here Friday.

Krailo belted a solo shot in the second inning and Verbick hit a three run shot in a seven run eighth inning for the Bearkats who are now 25-15 on the season and 9-7 in league play.

McNeese dropped to 13-25 overall and to 9-6 in conference action.

Jacob Howard hurled six innings of three hit, one run ball and struckout four to earn the victory, his eighth against three losses. Chris Denton, who started for the Cowboys and pitched seven innings, was the loser, going to 5-4.

Luke Prihoda came on for two innings of one-hit ball and Stephen Price finished the game with a scoreless and hitless ninth inning for Sam Houston.

McNeese had only four hits in the game but one was by catcher Joe Hulett who extended his hitting streak to 23 games.

The two teams will play another game on Saturday and one on Sunday.
