Catcher Casie Everitt hit a two-run single to power Sam Houston to a
three-run third inning and pitchers Brandi Crnkovic and Morgan Mikulin
combined to hold the Bobcats scoreless as the Bearkats defeated Texas State-San Marcos 3-0 in the third game of a Southland Conference softball series Sunday at Bearkat Softball Complex.
The victory gave Sam Houston the series victory. The Bearkats (27-20, SLC 14-7) stand in second place in the Southland after taking two of three games over the Bobcats.
Crnkovic (12-9) spread six hits over four and a third innings, striking out
four Bobcats while walking two. Mikulin picked up her fourth save of the year, entering the contest in the fifth inning with one out and the bases loaded. Mikulin struck out the first batter she faced and got the next one
to ground out to end the inning. She faced seven batters in the final two
innings striking out two.
Everitt's single in the third scored Kendra Spivey who singled with one out and Tiffani Woodrum who was running for Amanda Lindsey who walked. Sarah Parich added a third running with a single to score Everitt.
Sam Houston State will play host to Stephen F. Austin State in a three-game series Tuesday and Wednesday
