PITTSBURGH -- Paul Maholm fired a quick three-hitter to lead Pittsburgh's 3-to-0 shutout of Houston.
Maholm gave up just three singles and threw only 99 pitches in a
game that lasted one hour and 57 minutes. Maholm's first career
complete game helped the Pirates avoid their first 0-and-5 home
start in 109 years.
Jason Bay provided an R-B-I double in the first inning and a
run-scoring single in the third. In between, Ronny Paulino hit a
solo shot in the second.
All three runs were charged to Woody Williams, who is 0-and-3
after giving up nine hits in seven innings.
