Sam Houston State senior guard Corey Allmond has been named the Southland men's basketball player of the week the league office announced Monday.

Allmond, a native of Oxon Hill, Maryland, set the Adolph Rupp Arena, Southland Conference and Sam Houston State record with 11 three-point baskets made in 102-92 loss at No. 4 Kentucky Thursday.

His 37 points scored against the Wildcats ranks as the second-highest single-game scoring total by a Bearkat against an NCAA Division I opponent.

Allmond snapped the old Southland three-point field goal record of 10 held by Earnest Porter of Nicholls and Daryl Cohen of Southeastern Louisiana. Allmond followed his record-setting performance with 11 more points in a loss to the 2009 Horizon League champion Cleveland State. CSU reached the second round of the NCAA tournament last year after a first round upset of Wake Forest.

Allmond is the Bearkats' leading scorer this year, averaging 19.0 points a game as Sam Houston has rolled up a 2-2 record. For the year, Allmond is 18-of-39 from beyond the three point arc for a season percentage of .462.

Sam Houston State will play Oral Roberts in Cancun, Mexico, Tuesday at 12:30 p.m. Huntsville time.

The next home game for the Bearkat men will be Monday, Nov. 30, at 7:30 p.m. against Mid America Christian. Attending the contest can help Sam Houston students earn a free T-Shirt.
