Sam Houston Sweeps SFA In Softball Series

HUNTSVILLE -- Amanda Collier and Lauren Burns hit back-to-back home runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to give Sam Houston State a 4-3 victory over Stephen F. Austin and a sweep of the Lumberjacks in the pair's Southland Conference softball series Thursday night.

Sam Houston (30-20, SLC 17-7) also won the first game of Thursday's
doubleheader 1-0. The two victories give the Bearkats their first 30-victory softball season since 1993 when SHSU won the Southland Conference and the National Invitational Tournament with a 39-15 mark.

Burns also had a solo home run in the bottom of the fourth inning. Collier's run scored Stephanie Mosley who was on first base after a fielder's choice.

The Bearkats' lone run in the first game came in Sam Houston's first two at bats in the first inning. Sarah Parich doubled, then scored on a single by Casie Everitt.

Morgan Mikulin (15-10) was the winning pitcher in the first game, striking out nine Lumberjacks while giving up only four hits.

Brandi Crnkovic (14-9) was the winner in the nightcap, striking out seven.

Ashley Wilburn (14-11) and Debra Boles (4-0) were the losing pitchers for SFA.

Jessica Tullos hit a two-run homer for the Lumberjacks in the second game. SFA falls to 19-31 for the year and 12-14 in Southland action.
