HUNTSVILLE - Ryan Saltzgaber went 3-for-4 at the plate and Trent Lockwood hit a solo home run to lead Texas-San Antonio to a 4-2 victory over Sam Houston State Friday night at Don Sanders Stadium in the first contest of a three-game Southland Conference baseball series.
The Roadrunners scored a run each in the second, fourth, sixth, and ninth innings, totaling 11 hits.
James Keithley, Mitch Ponza, and Phillip Allen accounted for an RBI.
Josh Ruffin (5-2) was the winning pitcher, spreading 11 hits over six and two thirds innings while striking out five.
Josh Blakley and Zach Calhoon eached pitched in relief with Calhoon earning the save after facing six batters in the ninth.
Texas-San Antonio (25-18, SLC 15-5) remains atop the Southland Conference West Division standings with the victory.
Sam Houston State (27-17, SLC 11-8) totaled 14 hits, leaving 12 runners
stranded. Bobby Verbick and Keith Stein each had three hits for the
Bearkats. Jeremy Holzbach's sacrifice fly with the bases loaded scored a run in the fourth inning. Karl Krailo singled in a run in the ninth.
The two teams will play Saturday at 2 p.m. at Sanders Stadium.
