Texans Go Defense In First Round

NEW YORK -- The Houston Texans have picked up Louisville
defensive tackle Amobi Okoye with the tenth overall selection in today's N-F-L draft.
Okoye had a breakout season in 2006, collecting 55 tackles, 15
for loss and eight sacks for Louisville as a 19-year-old senior. He
made an impression at the Senior Bowl and added bulk prior to the
Combine.
Okoye was just 16 when he saw action in 13 games as a true
freshman for the Cardinals. He started one game as a sophomore and
ten as a junior, when he finished with 23 tackles, four for loss.
The six-two, 302-pounder has a big frame and great upper body
strength despite his age. He stays on his feet, closes fast and
uses his hands very well. Okoye shows tremendous potential with
room to grow, although there's also room for improvement. He
doesn't always play on natural instinct and needs to play with more
toughness. Okoye also can get bottled up by savvy linemen and needs
to keep his weight under control.
