TORONTO (AP) - Hank Blalock atoned for an earlier error with a sacrifice fly in the tenth inning to lift the Texas Rangers to a 9-to-8 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays.
Michael Young doubled with one out in the tenth and then stole
third. Mark Teixeira walked and Sammy Sosa was given a free pass from losing pitcher Brian Tallet before Blalock flied out to the warning track in center to drive in Young.
Talet drops to 0-and-1.
Akinori Otsuka got the win in his first decision of the year despite giving up the tying run in the ninth. Joaquin Benoit worked the tenth for
his first save, getting John McDonald to fly out to center with runners on first and second to end the game.
The Rangers scored three runs in the ninth to take an 8-7 lead.
Toronto tied it in the bottom of the ninth thanks in part to
Blalock's miscue.
