COLLEGE STATION -- Texas A&M women’s basketball coach Gary Blair will host the 4th Annual Coach Gary Blair Celebrity Golf Classic benefiting Special Olympics Texas and Surrounding Teams on Friday at Traditions Golf Club in Bryan.
The scramble format tournament has morning and afternoon tee times, and combined with a Celebration Dinner and Silent Auction presented by College Station Medical Center Thursday at 6 p.m. at The Tap, the two events serve as one of the largest fund raisers for Special Olympics in the state.
Blair hosted the event for 10 years while serving as the women’s basketball coach in Arkansas, and when he arrived in Aggieland he started the tournament which is now in its fourth year.
Each year, the tournament has surpassed its initial goals of fundraising. During its three-year run here, the events have raised more than $200,000 for Special Olympics.
Blair insists that the money raised locally benefits the local teams supported by Special Olympics.
Despite a full field of golfers, the local community can still support the cause via the Celebration Dinner and Silent Auction Thursday at The Tap on Harvey Road.
Donations will be accepted at the door and all in attendance will receive a catfish dinner from Outback Steakhouse and drinks.
A wide variety of items will be available in the silent auction ranging from dinners at area restaurants to sports memorabilia. A live auction will also be held.
The tournament and celebration dinner are made possible through the support of gold medal sponsors Chilifest, The Med, Upland Exploration, Outback Steakhouse, CC Creations, and Jack Hilliard Distributing.
