IRVING, Texas – Texas A&M sophomore Conor Pollock (San Antonio, Texas) was one of five men’s tennis players to be selected unanimously to the All-Big 12 Conference Team in an announcement made by the league office Tuesday.

One of the top singles players for the No. 35-ranked and NCAA Championship-bound Texas A&M men’s tennis team, Pollock posted a team-leading 16-6 record in dual match play including a conference-tying 4-2 record at No. 2 singles. He was crowned the No. 2 singles champion along with Oklahoma State’s Ivan Puchkarov. Pollock became the first Aggie to claim an individual conference title at the No. 2 line since former A&M standout Ante Matijevic did so in 2004. He compiled a 22-10 overall record in singles with a 4-5 mark against nationally-ranked opponents including wins over No. 80 Chris Surapol of UCLA, No. 64 Brian Hung of Michigan and No. 13 Lars Poerschke of Baylor.

Pollock, currently ranked No. 68 nationally in the latest ITA/FILA Collegiate Tennis Rankings, becomes only the 11th player in school history to garner All-Big 12 honors in singles since the league’s inception in 1997. An A&M player has now been named to the all-conference team a total of 21 times. Pollock was also this year’s recipient of the team’s Aggie Heart Award. He made his collegiate debut in the national rankings on March 20.

Last season, Pollock was named Big 12 Freshman of the Year and ITA South Central Region Rookie of the Year. An Academic All-Big 12 honoree, he holds an impressive 3.708 grade-point average in general studies at A&M. All-Big 12 honors were voted on by the league’s head coaches, who were not allowed to vote for their own players on the ballot.

Double Take…Texas A&M’s top doubles combination of senior Bryan Wooten (Houston, Texas) and freshman Luka Ocvirk (Ljubljana, Slovenia) also claimed an individual conference title compiling an undefeated 5-0 record at No. 3 doubles. They shared the title with Oklahoma State’s Ivan Puchkarov and Dymtro Petrov (5-1) as Big 12 position winners were determined by wins and not winning percentage. Wooten and Ocvirk become only the fourth Aggie duo to be crowned No. 3 doubles champions next to Matt Bain-Jerry Makowski in 2005, Cody Hubbell-Jarin Skube in 2001 and Rafael DeMesa-Cody Hubbell in 1998.
