COLLEGE STATION, Texas- The Texas A&M women’s swimming & diving guide was awarded one of two Superior ratings in the inaugural Media Guide of the Year contest held by Swimming World Magazine.

Auburn University, home of the reigning men’s and women’s NCAA championship teams, earned the other Superior rating. The Tigers’ combined men’s and women’s book was also named Media Guide of the Year.

Of Swimming World Magazine’s three inaugural awards handed out this year, Texas A&M was the only school to appear in each of the three categories. The cover of the women’s swimming and diving guide was named the best in the nation on April 5 while women’s swimming and diving media relations contact Chris Harrell was named honorable mention swimming SID of the year on April 4.

Two Outstanding ratings were awarded with both going to the University of Notre Dame. Both the Fighting Irish’s men’s and women’s books were graded as Outstanding.

Three other guides were graded in the Excellent category. The Wisconsin men’s and women’s combined guide as well as the Naval Academy’s separate men’s and women’s books grabbed the three Excellent grades.

In the post-contest release published by Swimming World Magazine on Tuesday, the A&M women’s book was lauded as ‘Probably the best looking guide of any submitted.’ Among other praise issued was “doing a great job in the records and history section” and “really stood out with a well-presented bio section.” Comments were also made for “put(ting) an emphasis on highlighting the fun parts of the sport.”

Each book was graded most highly for its history and records sections, followed by athlete and coach bios. Additional points were awarded for the overall look and design of the publication.

The 2006-07 women’s swimming & diving guide was written, compiled, designed, and edited by Chris Harrell and publications specialist Cyndi Mousner.
