BRYAN -- This Saturday, children will swim, bike and run to raise money for Scotty’s House, the local nonprofit child advocacy organization.
The May-K Tri, a triathlon designed specifically for children ages three through fifteen, will kick off at 8:45 a.m. at Aerofit Health & Fitness Center on Villa Maria in Bryan.
The race will include three divisions of varying length and difficulty. Adult guardians are invited to participate alongside their children.
The race is being presented by the Aluminum Kids Triathletes club in conjunction with Aerofit, with proceeds going to Scotty’s House.
Fun and fitness are two of the event’s top priorities, but so is safety. To that end, no child will be allowed to participate in the bike portion of the race without a properly fitting bicycle helmet, and children with little or no swimming experience must be accompanied by a guardian while in the pool.
The bike/run course will be manned by Bryan police officers and volunteers, and a licensed EMT will be on hand for the duration of the event.
The registration fee is $10 per child ($8 for each additional child in same family). To participate, athletes must be registered and checked in by 8:30 the morning of the race. Registration/waiver forms are available online at www.aluminumkidstriathletes.com/mayktri07.pdf .
