Aggies Shut Out Patriots

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Three Aggie pitchers combined to make a three-run first for No. 11 Texas A&M stand Friday night as the Aggies defeated Dallas Baptist, 3-0, at Olsen Field.

Starter Scott Migl (6-1) allowed six hits and fanned three in seven-plus innings and Matt Ueckert and Gary Campfield finished the game in relief. Campfield did not allow a hit and struck out one over 1 2/3 to earn his third save of the year.

“We had opportunities to put them away in the game,” A&M head coach Rob Childress said. “A lot of times those things come back to haunt you but we made some great plays in the field. I am proud of the way we came out with final exams going on. The guys came out and gave everything they had for three hours.”

With the win, the Aggies improved to 37-11, while the Patriots dropped to 25-22. A&M will try for the series sweep Saturday at 2 p.m. at Olsen Field.

Blake Stouffer and Brandon Hicks each had three hits to lead the A&M offensive attack. Luke Anders and Josh Stinson each pitched in with two hits.

A&M jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first off DBU starting pitcher Randall Taylor. Hicks singled and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Ben Feltner. Stouffer traded places with Hicks with a RBI double to left center and scored on a single by Anders. Anders moved to third on a single to right by Stinson and scored on a sacrifice fly to center by Brodie Greene.

The Patriots had their chances in the final four frames, stranding two runners in each inning. Greene made a circus catch while crashing into the wall in right center in the eighth to end the inning. In the ninth, second baseman Parker Dalton made a leaping catch of a soft liner to end the game and preserve the shutout.

Taylor (5-4) threw a complete game for DBU, allowing the three runs on 11 hits. He struck out three and did not walk a man.
