BATON ROUGE, La. -- No. 13-ranked Texas A&M will compete in the NCAA Women's Golf East Regional Thursday through Saturday at the University Golf Club in Baton Rouge, La.
The top eight teams and two individuals from each of the three regionals
will advance to the NCAA Championships May 22-25 in Daytona Beach, Fla.
The Aggies are making their 13th NCAA appearance in 15 years under Coach Jeanne Sutherland, who is retiring at the end of the season. A&M is looking to advance to its fourth straight NCAA finals.
A&M captured its second consecutive Big 12 championship on April 18 in Waco.
"We are looking forward to competing at the regional tournament," Sutherland said. "It is what we prepare for all year and our goals will be to use the things we have learned this year in the competition. We hope to focus on each shot, stay loose and confident and hole a lot of putts. Our practice has been strong since Big 12's and the team is ready."
Other teams in the East Regional are top-ranked Duke, No. 6 UCLA, No. 7 Auburn, No. 12 Purdue, No. 19 North Carolina, No. 24 Alabama, Wake Forest, South Carolina, Virginia, Florida State, LSU, Louisville, South Florida, North Carolina State, Birmingham-Southern, Furman, College of Charleston, Western Carolina, Jacksonville State and Jackson State.
"The field at our Regional is the strongest of the three sites," Sutherland
said. "There are 12 teams in the field ranked in the top 30 and only eight
of us can advance. It will place importance on mental toughness and taking advantage of opportunities presented by the course. Every player will need to play solid golf for us to advance."
Representing A&M will be seniors Ashley Knoll and Christa Spedding,
sophomore Lauren Johnson, and freshmen Danielle McVeigh and Ashley Freeman.
Knoll is the Big 12 player of the year for the second straight season while McVeigh was named the league's co-newcomer of the year. Knoll, McVeigh and Johnson were named to the All-Big 12 team.

Other Big 12 teams competing in other regionals are Baylor (Central),
