NORMAN, OK -- Texas A&M Assistant Men's Golf Coach Chris Gougenheim is among the three finalists for the 2007 Jan Strickland Assistant Coach of the Year Award presented by TaylorMade-adidas Golf.
Other finalists are UNLV's Andy Bischel and Duke's Brad Sparling.
Gougenheim is in his fifth year as an assistant under J.T. Higgins. He
handles the day-to-day operations of the A&M golf program as well as
equipment purchases and travel arrangements.
Gougenheim¹s recruiting efforts have helped A&M sign an AJGA first-team All-American in each of the last three seasons. A&M was the Big 12 runner-up in 2007, its highest finish in the league's 11-year history. Gougenheim also serves as executive director of The Aggie Golf Association.
The Strickland Assistant Coach of the Year Award presented by
TaylorMade-adidas Golf is given to the NCAA Division I, II, III or NAIA
assistant coach that, among other things, has excelled in working with their student-athletes both on the course and in the classroom.
The recipient of this award will have the opportunity to further their
professional development by being a guest of TaylorMade-adidas Golf at the PGA Teaching and Coaching Summit as well as an invitation to the
TaylorMade-adidas Golf Kingdom in Carlsbad, Calif. TaylorMade-adidas
has sponsored the award since its inception in 2003.
