A&M Places 15 Athletes On Academic All-big 12 Team

IRVING -- A total of 15 Texas A&M track and field athletes earned Academic All-Big 12 honors for the 2006-07 school year. Of that group 10 Aggies earned first team status while the other five were second team.

The Big 12 Conference office named 275 student-athletes to the 2007 Academic All-Big 12 track and field team. First team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA, and the second team members are those who have a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.

To qualify student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 60 percent of his/her team’s scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.

Represented on the first team for Texas A&M women were Lindsey Adams, Sarah Ravenelle, Sarah Sauvageau, Angela Thomas and Jessica Wingfield. The Aggie men were represented on the first team by Mitch Bible, Tyler Custis, Terry Dike, Seth Lowery and Brian McKinstry.

Wingfield was one of 22 athletes in the Big 12 to be recognized for a 4.0 GPA. The junior javelin thrower, who earned an All-America honor in 2005, is completing a double major in Biology and Political Science.

Named to the second team were Brian Duplechain, Kathryn Hearn, Ashley McCarty, Clora Williams and Jennifer Williams.
