LLINCOLN, NE -- With only two finals on either side of the ledger during the first day of the Big 12 Track and Field Championships, Texas A&M picked up points in the men’s discus and women’s 10,000 meters.

Josh Tiemann recorded the best finish on the day for the Aggies as he placed fifth in the discus with a toss of 173-4 (52.83). Teammate Dylan Conway established a season-best effort with a mark of 169-8 (51.72), which placed seventh in the competition. A&M totaled six points in the event.

In the women’s 10,000-meter race Sarah Sauvageau had enough energy left for a productive kick as she moved from ninth place to seventh during the final 1,000 meters and earned two valuable points for the A&M women. Her time of 36:59.50 improved her season best effort in the event by nearly two minutes.

Once Sauvageau passed Alicia McGregor of Kansas with under a lap remaining, she pulled ahead on the homestretch to secure seventh place.

Mitch Bible just missed out on scoring for the Aggies in the men’s 10,000 as he placed ninth in 31:01.06. The time places Bible at No. 8 on the A&M all-time list.

Running step for step with two other runners in the homestretch, it appeared Bible would score at least a point with the potential for three if he managed to claim sixth. However, Joe Moore of Kansas State had a stronger kick than the trio of runners and managed to pass them all for sixth place in 31:00.41. Missouri’s Garett Jeffries crossed the finish line next in 31:00.74 for seventh.

In a two-man duel for the final scoring position it was Owen Washburn of Texas getting the lean at the finish line for a time of 31:01.02, just 0.04 of a second ahead of Bible.

Also placing ninth on the first day of the conference meet was Anteneshia Lindsey in the women’s discus. Lindsey needed just three inches on her best toss of 159-0 (48.46) to reach the final and be guaranteed at least one point with three more throws in the event.

Action continues Saturday at the Big 12 Championships with finals in six field events as well as the qualifying rounds of the sprints and middle distance races.
