Spurs Open With Win Over Jazz

SAN ANTONIO (AP) - Tired? The San Antonio Spurs hardly looked
it. They raced out to a big early lead and ran away from Utah
108-to-100 to win the opener of the N-B-A Western Conference
finals.
San Antonio was supposed to be fatigued playing only 39 hours
after the end of a rough and tumble series with the Phoenix Suns.
Instead, they beat Utah for the 17th straight time at home.
The Spurs built an 18-point lead early in the fourth quarter
before Utah scored ten straight points to cut the lead to eight
with just over two minutes left. Utah got within seven in the final
minute before the Spurs closed the deal.
Tim Duncan led the Spurs with 27 points and ten boards. Manu
Ginobili (MAH'-noo jih-NOH'-blee) added 23 off the bench. Tony
Parker contributed 21 for the Spurs.
Carlos Boozer was high for Utah with 20 points and 12 boards.
Game Two is Tuesday night in San Antonio.
