Aggie Women Sign Connecticut Swimmer

COLLEGE STATION -- The Big 12 champion Texas A&M women¹s swimming & diving team has signed Sarah Froehlich (Hamden, Conn.) to a letter-of-intent, head coach Steve Bultman announced on Tuesday.

Froehlich, who graduates from Hamden High School this month, has swum for the Cheshire YMCA Seadogs coached by Sean Farrell this past year.

The future Aggie is a versatile swimmer in many of the longer events. She specializes in distance freestyle races such as the 500 (4:58.41), 1,000 (10:02.2), and 1,650 (17:07.98) as well as the 200-yard butterfly (2:05.6) and the 400 IM (4:28.46).

³The thing that intrigues me the most about Sarah is that up until the last
month or so she has never done doubles (two workouts a day) during the school year,² Bultman said. ³She has raced to some really good times already. I think she has a lot of room for improvement and I think her best swimming is ahead of her.²

Froehlich is a U.S. Open and USA Swimming Junior & Senior national qualifier in the 1,000-yard freestyle. She was an all-state selection and state finalist in both her junior and senior seasons as well.

³I chose Texas A&M because when I went there on my recruiting trip I clicked with the all the girls on the team, and both coaches, really well,²
Froehlich said. ³From the moment I got there I felt like I was already a
part of the team. I also love all of the academic and athletic support
offered.²

Froehlich is an honor roll student and was the captain of her high school team this past year. She spends some of her free time volunteering at an area hospital as well.

Froehlich joins an A&M recruiting class that was ranked No. 12 in the nation by CollegeSwimming.com just last week (prior to Froehlich signing with the Aggies). The high ranking of this year¹s class is even more notable in that A&M lost only three swimmers off its approximately 30-athlete roster this off-season.

The Aggies signed Melanie Dodds (Maple Ridge, B.C.), Casey Hurrell-Zitelman (San Antonio), Hannah Kinder (Cape Girardeau, Mo.), and Caroline Maxvill (Dallas) during the fall signing period.
