Facey, Henry Earn Big XII Accolades

Texas A&M junior Simone Facey claimed Women’s Outdoor Performer of the Year in the Big 12 following her double sprint win in Lincoln, Nebraska, during the conference championship.

Facey sped to career best times and Aggie school records of 11.19 seconds and 22.49 seconds for the two sprint victories and also ran the third leg of the winning A&M 4 x 100 relay, which set a school record of 43.67 seconds. She was also the Women’s High Point Scorer at the Big 12 Championships, accumulating 22.5 points among the 140 Texas A&M tallied for the team title over Nebraska (117) and Texas (89).

Aggie head coach Pat Henry earned his second Big 12 Women’s Coach of the Year accolade as the A&M women won its first-ever outdoor conference title to go with the first-ever indoor league title they claimed in February.

This past weekend the Aggie women won their third postseason championship team title during the NCAA Midwest Region, where they finished 31 points ahead of runner-up Texas, 98-67. The A&M women are predicted to finish among the top five at the NCAA Championships, being held June 6-9 in Sacramento, California.

Big 12 honors also included sophomore Scott Sellers of Kansas State being awarded Men’s Outdoor Performer of the Year. The Katy, Texas, native won the high jump at Big 12 with a school record of 7-7.75.

Freshman of the Year honors were shared on the men’s side by Baylor’s LaJerald Betters, winner of the 400 meters in 45.33 and Kansas pole vaulter Jordan Scott, who cleared a meet-record tying height of 18-2.50. Baylor’s Nichole Jones, winner of the 800 in 2:05.89, was the women’s Freshman of the Year.
