OXFORD, Miss. (AP) - Previously hitless Bobby Verbick drove in
the winning run as Sam Houston State eliminated Southern Miss
12-to-11 in eleven innings today in the N-C-double-A Oxford
regional.
Sam Houston State now plays top seed Mississippi in tonight's
championship game.
Southern Miss led by as much as 7-to-1 after six innings. But
Sam Houston State began a series of rallies in the seventh and
eight innings to tie the score 7-to-7. Each time the Golden Eagles
took a lead after that, the Bearkats rallied to tie the score until
Verbick and Keith Stein drove in two runs in the bottom of the
eleventh.
