Three Aggies Named NSCAA All-Region

COLLEGE STATION -- Three Texas A&M soccer players were named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) All-Central Region teams, the organization announced.

Junior Rachel Shipley was selected to the All-Central Region first team, junior Whitney Hooper was chosen as a second-team member and senior Emily Peterson earned third-team honors.

Shipley and Hooper received the NSCAA honors for the first time, while Peterson garnered the NSCAA all-region award for the second time in her career.

A midfielder from Plano, Texas, Shipley led the Aggie soccer team with 27 points and nine assists, and also netted nine goals. The All-Big 12 first team selection was named honorable mention to the TopDrawerSoccer.com Women’s College Soccer Team of the Season. Shipley also excels in the classroom as she was tabbed ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District second team and Academic All-Big 12 first team.

A product of Houston, Texas, Hooper tallied a team-high 10 goals and was second on the squad with 24 points. The forward also contributed four assists and is known for her outstanding speed. On Sept. 22 she claimed the NSCAA National Player of the Week award in addition to being named the Big 12 Player of the Week and earning several other national awards. Hooper was selected to the All-Big 12 second team and she produced two goals and one assist in the NCAA Tournament.

Peterson is a native of Tulsa, Okla., and earned her first NSCAA award as a sophomore. This season, Peterson led a young Aggie defense to 10 shutouts and supplied a goal and an assist to help push A&M to the third round of the NCAA Tournament. The three points she totaled were the first since her freshman year. Peterson was recently named the winner of the Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award for women’s soccer. She also earned a spot on the All-Big 12 second team, the Academic All-Big 12 first team and the The ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-District team.

These three student-athletes were instrumental in Texas A&M’s 10th trip to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament, tallying all but one of five goals and all but one of four assists in the postseason.
