CINCINNATI -- Sammy Sosa hit a grand slam for his 599th career homer while leading the Texas Rangers to a 7-to-6 victory over the Cincinnati Reds. The 38-year-old slugger is one homer away from joining Hank Aaron, Barry Bonds, Babe Ruth and Willie Mays in the 600 club.
He ended an 18-game homer drought with his first grand slam
since 2004. Sosa sat out last season.
Sosa's ninth career grand slam came off Matt Belisle, who is
5-and-5 with the loss. Ramon Vazquez also homered for the Rangers.
David Ross and Adam Dunn homered for the Reds.
Vicente Padilla got his first road win to improve to 3-and-8.
Eric Gagne (GAHN'-yay) retired the side in the ninth and
remained perfect in seven save chances this season.
