OMAHA, Neb. -- Freshman Jorge Reyes gave Oregon State a strong pitching performance and the defending champion Beavers beat North Carolina 11-to-4 in Game One of the College World Series championship.
North Carolina will need to sweep the next two games to prevent
Oregon State from becoming the first back-to-back national champion
since L-S-U in 1996 and '97. Game Two is Sunday night. If
necessary, Game Three is Monday night.
The Beavers have won all four of their C-W-S games and ten of
their last eleven overall.
Reyes allowed eight hits and three runs in six and a-third
innings to win for the second time in the C-W-S and third time in
the N-C-A-A tournament.
