CROMWELL, Conn. (AP) - Hunter Mahan earned his first P-G-A Tour victory by winning the Travelers Championship in a
playoff. The 25-year-old Mahan is the youngest winner on the P-G-A
Tour this year.
Mahan finished second in this event last year. But he made a
two-foot birdie putt on the first playoff hole to beat 40-year-old
journeyman Jay Williamson. Williamson has never won in 280 starts
on the P-G-A Tour. He was playing this event on a sponsor's
exemption.
The second-place finish is enough to earn Williamson a trip to
Michigan for next weekend's Buick Open on the P-G-A Tour before he
returns to the Nationwide Tour.
