Law Goes To Atlanta As 11th Overall Pick

NEW YORK CITY, NY -- Texas A&M point guard Acie Law IV realized a boyhood dream when he was drafted in the first round of the NBA draft by the Atlanta Hawks Thursday night.

Law becomes the highest drafted men's basketball player in school history after being the 11th overall selection. Two years ago Antoine Wright was the 15th pick taken by the New Jersey Nets. The only other first round draft choice from A&M was over 30 years ago when Sonny Parker was drafted by the Golden State Warriors as the 17th selection back in 1976.

Acie finished his collegiate career as the school's third all time leading scorer with 1,669 points.

He was third in assists with 545 and sixth in steals with 156.

Captain Clutch provided some unforgettable moments with big shots to help win games for the Maroon and White during his Aggie career.

Acie considered leaving Texas A&M after his freshman season in 2004 when Texas A&M went 0-16 in the Big 12 regular season and saw head coach Melvin Watkins resign his post going into the Big 12 post season tournament.

Billy Gillispie was hired from UTEP to replace Watkins and molded Acie into a first round selection.

During the three years that Gillispie and Law were together, Texas A&M made three straight trips to the post season including back to back appearances in the NCAA tournament for the first time in school history.

Last season the Aggies set a school record with 27 wins along with just 7 losses, advancing to the "Sweet 16" for just the 2nd time in school history.
