Mets Claim Series Opener Against Astros

HOUSTON -- John Maine picked up his tenth win and the New
York Mets ended a four-game losing streak by beating the Astros
6-to-2 in Houston.
Maine had a career-high nine strikeouts while allowing two runs
and six hits over seven and two-thirds. He is 10-and-4 after
winning his fourth consecutive start.
Mets catcher Ramon Castro hit a two-run double while starting in
place of Paul Lo Duca, who began serving a two-game suspension for
arguing with an umpire. Ricky Ledee added a pair of run-scoring singles, Castro went 3-for-4 and Carlos Delgado had four hits and an
R-B-I.
Former Astro Carlos Beltran capped the scoring with a solo homer
in the ninth.
The loss goes to 1-and-4 Jason Jennings, who allowed five runs
and nine hits in six innings.
Astros outfielder Carlos Lee collected his National League-high
72nd R-B-I.
