NEW ORLEANS (AP) - An assistant coach at California has been
hired today by New Orleans to be men's basketball coach.
Joe Pasternack was a finalist last year when U-N-O hired Texas
A-and-M assistant Buzz Williams.
Williams resigned Friday to take an assistant coaching job at
Marquette.
Pasternack becomes the eleventh head coach in U-N-O history. He
inherits a team that returns four starters - including Sun Belt
Conference Player of the Year and AP All-American selection Bo
McCalebb.
Pasternack is a New Orleans native who was a student manager for
Bob Knight at Indiana from 1995 through 1999. Knight is now coach
at Texas Tech.
