ATLANTA, GA (July 9, 2007) -- The Atlanta Hawks announced today that the franchise has signed first round picks Al Horford and Acie Law to multi-year contracts. According to Assistant General Manager Gary Fitzsimmons, the players are now clear to participate in the Hawks’ rookie-free agent camp which begins this evening at Philips Arena.
Horford and Law will also travel later in the week with the rest of the Hawks squad to the Rocky Mountain Revue, scheduled July 13-20 in Salt Lake City, UT.
The highly-touted Horford (6-10, 245) captured two NCAA titles as a member of the back-to-back National Champion Florida Gators before entering the 2007 Draft as an early-entry candidate. A three-year starter for Coach Billy Donovan, he was also a third team All-America choice by the Associated Press and first team All-Southeastern Conference (SEC) player after tossing in 13.2 points per game, grabbing 9.5 rebounds and rejecting 1.8 shots.
Second in the conference in rebounding and seventh in blocked shots, Horford’s 18 points and 12 rebounds led the Gators in the national championship game against Ohio State.
The hot-shooting Law (6-3, 195) was a finalist for the Naismith and Wooden Awards after leading Texas A&M with 18.1 points and five assists per game. Fifth in the conference in scoring and field goal percentage (.500), he also connected on 45.8% of his three-point attempts.
A consensus first team All-American last season, Law earned All-Big 12 first team honors for the second straight year, and finished his career as the Aggies’ third all-time leading scorer (1,669 points) and assists king (545).
