Brazos Blaze Wins A Pair At National Tourney

The Brazos Blaze won its first two games and then lost a slug fest in their third game at the 15U Premier National Championship tournament in Dallas, TX. The Brazos Valley based team won their first two games 6-3 over the Arizona Clash, then 15-3 over the Dallas Mustangs and lost their third game 11-12 to the Austin Slam Phillies.

In the first game, Kevin Bishop was the winning pitcher. Bishop gave up only one hit over 5 and 1/3 innings. Shelby Robinson closed the game. The offense was led by Travis Gardner with two hits, Michael Todaro, Robinson, Bishop, Tyler Eppler and Caleb Riebe each added one hit.

In the second game, Brice Springer was the winning pitcher. Springer gave up three hits over 3 and 1/3 innings. Riebe closed the game. The offense was led by Derrick Hadley with three hits, Gardner with two hits, Robinson, Riebe, Dillen Ashton, Eppler and Gabe Contreras each added one hit.

In the third game, the Blaze battled back from a five run deficit but it was not enough in the end. In the final two innings the Blaze were able to score four runs, but came up one run short. The Blaze left the based loaded in the bottom of the 7th inning to lose the slug fest. The offense was led by Hadley and Riebe with three hits, Todaro and Ashton with two hits, Robinson, T J Nixson and Gardner with one hit each.

The Blaze is seeded eight of the thirty team field for the championship round. They will face the Austin Slam Rangers from Austin, TX on Friday.
