MONTPELLIER, France -- And Denmark's Michael Rasmussen
retained the overall leader's yellow jersey.
Hunter sprinted at the end of the mostly-flat
113-point-four-mile route under a hot sun to record the first-ever
stage victory by a South African.
The main pack of riders finished with the same time, with
Rasmussen maintaining a two-minute-and-35-second lead over
Alejandro Valverde (ah-leh-HAHN'-droh val-VUR'-dee). Iban Mayo is
still in third place, two minutes and 39 seconds off the lead.
