SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Notre Dame will play a "home" football
game on the road in San Antonio in 2009.
The Fighting Irish will take on Washington State at the
Alamodome on October 31st, 2009.
It's the first of a series of annual "offsite" games Notre
Dame plans to begin playing.
The idea is to make the Fighting Irish games more accessible to
their fans around the country.
They'll play such "home" games at the Citrus Bowl in Orlando,
Florida, in 2011 and 2014, but no opponents have been announced
Since they're considered home games for Notre Dame, N-B-C will
televise them nationwide.
Notre Dame athletic director Kevin White has compared playing
home games at neutral sites to the barnstorming approach that Knute
Rockne took while coaching the Irish in the 1920s.
