Lady Mustangs' State Title Hopes Dashed By Liberty-Eylau
Despite an 11 point fist half lead, Madisonville could not hold back Texarkana Liberty-Eylau in the 3A semifinals this afternoon at the Erwin Center in Austin, losing it in overtime 77 to 69.

AUSTIN -- For 16 minutes it looked like Madisonville's quickness would overcome Liberty-Eylau's height, but in the end, the Panthers were able to rally and advance to Saturday's 3A title game with a 77 to 69 overtime win.
The Lady Mustangs held a 30-34 halftime lead, but Liberty-Eylau outscored Madisonville 15-9 to close out the period and lead it 48-46 heading into the 4th quarter.
In the fourth, Madisonville fell behind by 5 before retaking the lead on a Chasity Young lay-up at the 2:17 mark, 63-62.
The Panthers' Sharde' Collins hit a 3 pointer with :11 left to tie the game at 67.
Madisonville had a chance to win it at the buzzer, but Brittney Smith's jumper was off the mark forcing overtime.
In the extra period, Liberty-Eylau scored the first five points and never looked back as they advance with a 77 to 69 win.
The Lady Mustangs (31-6) lose four seniors off this year's team: Adrianna Gilbert, Unique Johnson, and Anesia Robinson, Chasity Young.
Liberty-Eylau's Bianca Stevenson led all scorers with 27 points, while Madisonville got 24 from Lisa Nealey, 16 from Brittney Smith and 13 from Chasity Young.
