BRENHAM -- Todd Smith and Tony Haynes have joined the Blinn College football staff, head coach Brad Franchione announced today.

Smith, who comes to Blinn from Menlo College in Atherton, Calif., will coach the secondary, and Haynes, who has been at Valdosta (Ga.) State University, will coach the quarterbacks and wide receivers.

Smith, a native of San Jose, Calif., played at defensive back for two years at Gavilan College in Gilroy, Calif., before walking on at San Diego State. He was the defensive coordinator and linebackers coach at Menlo.

Haynes, a native of Lakeland, Fla., played wide receiver and quarterback at Webber International University in Babson Park, Fla. At Valdosta he coached the offensive line and wide receivers.

Smith replaces Kevin McKinley, while Haynes takes over the quarterback and receivers that were part of offensive coordinator Mike Nesbitt's duties. Nesbitt is now at West Texas A&M University. Buc offensive line coach Lloyd Spotted Wolf is now the offensive coordinator.

The Buccaneers, defending National Junior College Athletic Association champions, open their season Aug. 25 at home against Coffeyville (Kansas) Community College.
