COLLEGE STATION -- The Texas A&M baseball team puts its six-game win streak on the line when the Aggies host Penn State in a pair of midweek games at Olsen Field. First pitch on both Tuesday and Wednesday is set for 6:35 p.m.
A&M (9-2) is in the midst of a 17-game homestand and enters the week fresh off an impressive sweep of previously unbeaten Winthrop. The Nittany Lions are 4-3 on the year and are coming off a 2-2 weekend at the YMBL Cardinal Classic in Beaumont. PSU defeated McNeese State and Dallas Baptist before losing the final two games of the tourney to host Lamar, and enters the weekend hitting .260 with seven home runs and 13 stolen bases while sporting a 4.19 team ERA. Junior Ben Heath (.294, 4 HR, 9 RBI) and sophomore Joey DeBernardis (.323, 5 RBI) pace the offensive attack.
A&M true freshman Michael Wacha (1-0, 0.66 ERA) will make his first career start on Tuesday night and will face Penn State freshman John Walter (0-1, 1.93). On Wednesday, Aggie senior Clayton Ehlert (0-1, 12.15) will get the nod against Nittany Lion senior Mike Wanamaker, who will be making his first appearance since the 2008 season.
The Aggies lead the all-time series with Penn State, 5-1, and has won four straight. The teams last met in 2001, when A&M took three games from the Nittany Lions as part of the Continental Express Aggie Baseball Classic at Olsen Field.
