McVeigh Makes British Open Field

ST. ANDREWS, Scotland -- Texas A&M sophomore-to-be Danielle McVeigh carded a two-over-par 74 and battled through a massive 14-woman playoff to claim one of eight qualifying berths in the 2007 Ricoh Women's British Open.

The championship begins on Thursday at the storied Old Course at St. Andrews and will continue through Sunday.

McVeigh, the 2005 Irish Girls champion, set an A&M freshman record with a 75.17 scoring average last season. She won the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational and tied for fourth at the Big 12 Championship.

The first two rounds of the Ricoh Women's British Open will be televised in the United States on TNT (9-11 a.m.), with the weekend rounds being shown nationally on ABC (12:30-2 p.m. on Saturday, Noon-2 p.m. on Sunday).
