NEW YORK -- Texas A&M will play host to Oral Roberts in the first round of the Dick's Sporting Goods NIT Season Tip-Off on Nov. 13 at 8 p.m. at Reed Arena. The game will be televised on ESPNU.
A&M is one of four schools playing host to the first two rounds of the
tournament. NCAA runner-up Ohio State, Syracuse and Washington also will serve as early round hosts in the 16-team tournament.
In the other first-round game in College Station, Texas A&M Corpus Christi will face UTEP at 5 p.m. The winners will advance to the second round game on Nov. 14 at Reed Arena (time to be determined).
Oral Roberts finished 23-11 last season, while A&M Corpus Christi was 26-7.
The four second-round winners will advance to the semifinals on Nov. 21 at New York City's Madison Square Garden. The championship and consolation games will be on Nov. 23. All the games in New York will be televised nationally on ESPN.
On Nov. 12, Ohio State will play Wisconsin-Green Bay with Columbia playing Delaware State in the other game. At Syracuse, Siena will face the host school while Saint Joseph's faces Fairleigh Dickinson. The second-round games at those sites will be on Nov. 13.
New Jersey Tech will be at Washington on Nov. 13 with Utah playing High Point. The second-round game will be on Nov. 14.
In addition to Ohio State and A&M, Oral Roberts and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi also played in the 2007 NCAA tournament. Syracuse went to the NIT.
Butler won last year's NIT Season Tip-Off.
The NIT selection committee includes chairman C.M. Newton, Eddie Fogler, Rudy Davalos, Don DeVoe, Gene Keady, Reggie Minton, Jack Powers and Carroll Williams.
The postseason tournament started in 1938, while the preseason version began in 1985.
