COLLEGE STATION -- Texas A&M men’s tennis standout Conor Pollock (San Antonio, Texas) closed out competition on the USTA Men’s Futures circuit with his third doubles title of the summer.

Pollock, a returning All-Big 12 Conference selection for the Aggies, combined with Brazil’s Rodrigo-Antonio Grilli to defeat Japan’s Masato Hatanaka and New Zealand’s Jose Statham, 4-6, 6-4, 7-6 (3), in the doubles final held Sunday in Milwaukee, Wis. He also picked up doubles victories at both the Joplin, Mo. and Decatur, Ill. sites.

“Conor had a very successful summer,” Texas A&M head coach Steve Denton said. “He earned his first ATP singles points by winning four matches in the qualies and four matches in the main draw. To be able to win doubles in three of those four tournaments with three different partners, shows how accomplished a doubles player he has become. Conor played quality matches against top players from all over the world and really has the determination and passion to be a great tennis player.”

On the ITA Summer Circuit...Senior Matt Bain (Georgetown, Texas) won the open singles portion of the ITA Southwest Region Tournament held at Collin County Community College in Plano, Texas. He defeated Duke’s Aaron Carpenter in the finals, 6-1, 6-2. Meanwhile, sophomore Stephen Shields (Austin, Texas) reached the quarterfinals in singles, but dropped a 6-4, 6-3 decision to Aaron Carpenter. Senior Mike Beatty (Cincinnati, Ohio) and Shields combined in doubles and lost in the finals to Matt Bain and Texas’ Josh Zavala, 5-0 (retired). Beatty advanced to the Round of 16 in singles at both the Collin County and Abilene sites, while Bain reached the semifinals in singles at the UT-Arlington site.
