Simmons Gets His Shot

HOUSTON (AP) - Houston Texans safety Jason Simmons isn't
outspoken.
And his thin, compact frame doesn't exactly strike fear into the
opposition.
But the player is is intelligent, a hard worker and will do
what's asked of him.
It's those qualities that have helped Simmons enjoy a ten-year
NFL career -- despite never being a full-time starter.
He's now getting a chance to take over for the injured Glenn
Earl.
Coach Gary Kubiak says Simmons deserves a chance to go out there and play.
The 5-foot-9 Simmons appeared in all 16 games last season but
started only twice, once each at strong safety and free safety.
He had 38 tackles and an interception on defense and added nine
tackles on special teams.
The 31-year-old had three tackle in Houston's preseason loss
Saturday to Chicago.
Earl fractured his foot against the Bears.
