SAN DIEGO - Greg Maddux allowed two hits over six innings
for his 342nd career win as San Diego beat the Houston Astros 5-3.
Maddux struck out three and didn't walk a batter. His 342 wins
move him into a tie with Tim Keefe for ninth on the all-time list.
The only run he allowed was Lance Berkman's first-inning homer.
The 41-year-old Maddux is 9-and-9 after winning consecutive
starts for the first time this season.
Termel (tur-MEHL') Sledge drove in the go-ahead run with a
fourth-inning sacrifice fly and Adrian Gonzalez hit his 20th homer
as the Padres salvaged the finale of a three-game series.
The win pulls the Padres within four games of NL West-leading
Arizona, which lost at Atlanta.
Trevor Hoffman finished for his 31st save. Astros starter Matt
Albers took the loss and is 3-and-6
