Lubbock Advances To LLWS Semifinals

SOUTH WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. (AP) - Lubbock, Texas, has been advanced to the Little League World Series semifinals.
That's after weather-related postponements forced preliminary
games into today, when Lubbock was to have played Salisbury,
Maryland, and Tokyo Kitasuna, Japan, was to have played Dhahran,
Saudi Arabia. Those games were canceled because Lubbock and Tokyo
are both unbeaten and their outcomes wouldn't have affected the
That means Lubbock and Tokyo advance, while Salisbury and
Dhahran are eliminated.
In games that were played yesterday, Levi Rudolph pitched
four-plus effective innings and bunted home a run as Lake Oswego,
Oregon, beat Hamilton, Ohio, 6-1, to advance to the semis.
In other games Tuesday, Tokyo Kitasuna defeated White Rock,
British Columbia, 7-1; and Maracaibo (mah-rah-KYE'-boh), Venezuela,
routed Apeldoorn, Netherlands, 21-2. The game between Warner
Robins, Georgia, and Walpole, Massachusetts was suspended in the
second inning because of rain with Warner Robins up, 2-0. That game
will be completed today.
A late game between Taichung, Taiwan, and Mexicali, Mexico, last
night was postponed. Mexico must now play two today -- against
Taichung and Maracaibo. Also playing today are Willemstad, Curacao, against White Rock, British Columbia;
and Chandler, Arizona, against Coon Rapids, Minnesota.
